Changes – 1 January 2012
There are new stowage requirements for life jackets on recreational boats.
Boat owners or skippers must give each person on board information
about where the safety equipment is kept and clearly sign where
life jackets are stowed.
Find out more information about the life jacket stowage requirements.
The life jacket stowage changes are part of a number of changes made by Maritime Safety Queensland to jet ski and boating rules.
The changes are to licensing and safety equipment requirements and aim to reduce the chance of a marine incident occurring.

RECREATIONAL anglers from Redlands now have three artificial reefs to throw their lines off after 78 reef balls were tipped into waters east of Coochiemudlo Island last week.
The other two reefs established in waters off the Redlands last year are the Harry Atkinson Artificial Reef, west of North Stradbroke Island, and the West Peel Island Reef.
The East Coochiemudlo Artifical Reef was one of six the State Government promised in a $2million election commitment in 2009 in a bid to appease recreational anglers after 16 per cent of the bay was turned into marine park zones.
Environment Minister Kate Jones said 800kg of the concrete balls had been dumped over the side of a barge near Coochie in calm waters on Wednesday.
She said they would provide the perfect habitat for fish recreational fishers around Coochie liked to catch.
"The completion of this artificial reef provides new opportunities for mum and dad fishers to drop a line with their kids in the bay," Ms Jones said.
"Our government is committed to providing sustainable recreational fishing opportunities in South East Queensland.
"Recreational fishing in the bay has been tough since the floods so the completion of this new reef in healthy waters near Coochie is good news for local fishers," Ms Jones said.
Member for Capalaba Michael Choi said the completion of the reef was good news for local families who liked fishing.
"This is a terrific opportunity for locals and visitors to enjoy sustainable recreational fishing during the Easter holidays," he said.
Cleveland MP Mark Robinson refuted conservationists' claims that the reef balls were death traps for fish.
"These artificial reefs are good, not bad, even though they are not fair compensation for the loss of recreational fishing green zones," Mr Robinson said.
Ms Jones said local volunteers and organisations including the Queensland Game Fishing Association, Sunfish, Ecofishers and the Austra lian Underwater Federation had helped the government plan the reefs.
She said the remaining three artificial reefs at Wild Banks, North Moreton Island and South Stradbroke Island, would be completed by June.
